Maspeth Tattoo is a small team with complementary styles and a shared approach to thoughtful, client-focused tattooing.
Daniel grew up around western Queens and started drawing portraits, storefronts and neighborhood scenes long before tattooing became his profession. He is especially drawn to black and grey work, cover ups and pieces where the composition has to solve a practical problem. Outside the studio, he still keeps a sketchbook nearby and has a habit of photographing old New York signs before they disappear.
Maya focuses on fineline, botanical and color-driven tattooing, with a particular interest in designs that follow the natural movement of the body. Her early visual influences came from her grandmother's sewing patterns and the plants filling her family's Queens apartment windows. When she is not tattooing, she spends time drawing flowers from neighborhood markets and turning those studies into new compositions.
Evan brings a strong interest in portraiture, black and grey shading and carefully planned placement. Before focusing on tattooing, he spent years shooting street photography and working in charcoal, which shaped the way he thinks about contrast and recognizable features. He is also the person on the team most likely to notice a tiny alignment issue before anyone else does.
We start with the idea and the body area rather than forcing every client into the same process. Some projects can be understood quickly from a few references. Others, especially portraits, large tattoos and cover ups, need more discussion before the right direction becomes clear. Whoever is working on the project explains the practical considerations that matter and gives the client space to ask questions.
The team also talks with each other. When another artist has useful experience with a particular style, placement or design problem, we are comfortable getting a second set of eyes. The goal is not to make the process complicated. It is to make sure the tattoo is being considered carefully before it becomes permanent.
